Bobby and Cheri came to the park today and picked us up, as our destination was closer to where we are.
We met some of Cheri's family in Guren, TX and ate lunch at the Grist Mill. This was a post Civil War ghost town when the bottom fell out of the cotton industry. The Guadalupe River runs right along the property.
The Grist Mill restaurant is a huge place with tables inside and out. Outside tables are lit by overhead lights in the trees, and big industrial fans pointing down at the tables. Made for a comfortable eating experience and the food was delicious. From a road busy with traffic, you wander down a path surrounded by flowers native to Texas, that with the huge shade trees surrounding the outdoor seating, a beautiful setting. We joined Cheri's Aunt and Uncle, plus a few other family members, 10 of us total, and a nice bunch of people.
On the streets around the Grist Mill are B & B's, antique shops and the normal tourist curio shops. We visited a few after lunch, but away from all the shade trees, it was just to hot to enjoy. So we headed home.
We had a wonderful visit with Bobby & Cheri, but alas, all good things must come to an end.
From San Antonio we traveled to College Station. We are here to meet Grandson, Zachary's bride, Mikahl. They were married back in December in Hawaii, where Zach is stationed. Zach is currently on Temporary duty outside of Darwin, Australia. Mikahl is in the process of finishing her degree at A & M, here in College Station. Wise decisions made by this young couple, since Zach was due to be in Australia for 6 months, Mikahl was to stay in College Station and keep studying and working.
I'm proud of both of them, it is so wonderful to witness how Zach has grown and matured and become a responsible young adult.
Mikahl seems to be a very intelligent and mature young woman and if she can make it past the crazy that is our family, she will fit in really well.
After we arrived here we went over to her house, then took her to dinner. We ended up going to where she works, "Harvey Washbangers", which is a laundrymatt/burger joint. There is a group of numbered lights on the wall in the cafe that indicate the washers and dryers so that you know when your machines are done and can go take care of things. It's a unique operation, never seen one like it before.
The park we are in is RV Haven, a newer park, mostly pull thrus, with 50 amp. Sites are mostly level, but some have become lakes with the heavy amount of rain we have received while we have been here. The site we are in is approximately 70' long, so plenty of room for the big rigs!
Loved your visit!! We had such a great time with you! xoxo
