Counter Balanced Drawbridge
It only goes up a couple of times a day, so the boats have to be there waiting to cross whenever it goes up.

6/7/21
Today
we traveled over to the town of Mystic, CT where the historic Mystic Seaport
& Museum are located. This is a very large, very extensive collection of
sailing vessels of all sizes and shapes from the 1800’s forward.
Shipbuilding
of this time period was an artform that required skilled craftsmen every step
of the way. No computer programs to cut the wood or sew the sails, everything
is done by hand. No two ships were alike, so adaptations had to be made for
each ship.
There
are three outdoor areas to the Seaport, the Henry B. duPont Preservation
Shipyard, a 19th Century Maritime Village and the North Campus
featuring world-class exhibits like Voyaging in the Wake of the Whalers and
Sailor-Made featuring handmade folk art created during long hours on the sea.
Also included was access to three tall ships, including the National Landmark—the
Charles W. Morgan—the world’s last authentic wooden whaling ship. Lots
to see and lots of walking involved. My knee gave out almost immediately, so
Rick & Jenn rented a wheel chair for me, which saved the day. The grounds
open at 10 am, and we were there before it opened and didn’t leave until almost
4 pm.
Also
located in the historic town of Mystic, is Mystic Pizza, where the movie of the
same title was filmed and stared Julia Roberts. I had wanted to get a pizza
from there, but we all had fish and chips for lunch on the grounds of the
Seaport and we were still stuffed from that when we left, so no pizza.
Something to do next time we are in the area.

Poor Rick spent most of his day pushing me around. Phil tried, but the handles were so low it hurt his neck to push me and look up to see where he was going. We finally make it to the museum, at the end of a long, hot day
