7/3 - 7/4/15
On the 3rd, Skagway put on a spectacular fireworks display, one of the best we have ever seen. A solid 35 minute show, no breaks, no pauses, just beautiful fireworks exploding in the air and reflecting off of the still waters of the Skagway harbor, the explosions bouncing off of the surrounding mountains. Unfortunately, Phil didn't take the camera.
The town of Skagway has worked hard to preserve the old buildings from the Gold Rush days. The town is also very clean, considering every RV park was full and there were 3-4 cruise ships docked here each day, the entire time we were here!
A glaciers normal color is a very light blue, most are dirty because of the environment. The one above Skagway looked pretty clean.
The caravan members voted a resounding YES to participating in Skagway's 4th of July parade. Two trucks were volunteered and a committee decorated them. All of our members were involved with the parade and either rode in the backs of the trucks or walked. Everyone had a really great time and our veteran's were well received by the town.
The Canadian Mounties were behind us in the parade.
Add 3 or 4 full RV parks and 3 cruise ships to the small town population and you have a full house!!
Even with a very short growing season, Skagway gardens put on a very good show.
A small town the size of Skagway has it's own transit system and they call it SMART, we liked the name!!
