Before the castle was finished, Mrs Boldt died, never having lived in her husbands gift to her. Mr Boldt was devastated at her loss, ordered all work stopped and never set foot on the island again. The castle sat empty and open to the elements for years before the Island Authority took it over and started to renovate it back to its glory. There is still work to be done, repairs to rot from exposure and evidence of defacing of the walls and unfinished areas. Phil took a thousand pictures, and I can’t post all of them, but hopefully you will get the idea.
Of course, these pictures have loaded backwards, at the end of the day it started raining, which cut short our tour of the outside of the castle grounds, but we were exhausted anyway!
Making our way back to the dock to catch our ride back to shore. This is a map of the castle and the grounds
