We started the day in Waterloo, looking around at the Historical Markers. We found out that Waterloo takes credit for the first and official observation of Memorial Day. In May of 1866, they dedicated an entire day for a community-wide event honoring their Civil War dead. Shortly after that, the President declared it an observed National Holiday.
Back up to Seneca Falls to the Women’s Rights National Park at the sight of the first Women’s Rights convention, where the Women’s Bill of Rights was presented for the first time. Isn’t it amazing that we are still fighting this battle? I know Arkansas has not ratified yet. Crazy uh??
I love the pictures of exhibits in Seneca Falls. You are right. It is shocking that some states have not yet ratified the equal rights amendment. As my mom was fond of saying, "It takes all kinds to make a world." I like to add that we might have a better world without a few of them.
