Waterloo, NY, Seneca Lake, Women's Rights National Historic site, It's a Wonderful Life Museum

 8/3/21

We started the day in Waterloo, looking around at the Historical Markers. We found out that Waterloo takes credit for the first and official observation of Memorial Day. In May of 1866, they dedicated an entire day for a community-wide event honoring their Civil War dead. Shortly after that, the President declared it an observed National Holiday.

Then we took a short drive down along Seneca Lake. Lots of wineries in this neck of the woods! We finally pulled over at one called The Thirsty Owl. Phil and Rick did a little tasting, Phil didn’t seem to impressed.

Back up to Seneca Falls to the Women’s Rights National Park at the sight of the first Women’s Rights convention, where the Women’s Bill of Rights was presented for the first time. Isn’t it amazing that we are still fighting this battle? I know Arkansas has not ratified yet. Crazy uh??

After getting all fired up over Women’s Rights, we went to the Museum of the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, toned the emotions down a little.

  1. I love the pictures of exhibits in Seneca Falls. You are right. It is shocking that some states have not yet ratified the equal rights amendment. As my mom was fond of saying, "It takes all kinds to make a world." I like to add that we might have a better world without a few of them.
